Future beauty queen in the making...

A couple photos from a recent shoot I did with the fiery Miss "A." This little beauty has such personality, and I can't wait to watch her grow up! I believe I got as dirty as she did as we crawled across the grass and through the leaves.

Infrared | By Request

At the end of this last winter a request was made that I do some infrareds in a local state park. And yes, I finally got around to taking those photos at the end of last week. Nothing like pushing the envelope and risking the leaves falling off the trees before I got there to do it!

The photos were meant to capture the essence of a park that a family pretty much grew up in. Something that would be recognizable by them as "their" place. I've sent the gallery link off to the person who requested them, received good reviews of them and will be taking some time to meet with her tomorrow to narrow down some choices. In the mean time I thought I would share a couple of my favorites from that afternoon's job!

Weekend catch up

Look at this! A bonus post today. I had all my photos for the 365 already to go, so I thought, hey, why not!

Waterfalling | Fillmore Glen State Park

I visited Fillmore Glen State Park for the first time on Saturday. It was an overcast and chilly day. I arrived at the park and then quickly left and ran to a store in the nearby town to pick up a sweater since I was considerably under-dressed when I left the house. It kinda helps me to not be shivering when trying to take photos!

Once my immediate comfort needs were met, and the shivering had stopped, I began the walk into the glen... and silently realized I had forgotten all my neutral density filters and rings at home... that put a damper on my mindset for the day. I don't do water without ND filters. But, I was forced to do just that. And I'm not happy with the outcome. I'm not sure how people shoot waterfalls without ND filters... I obviously can't do it. I walked the glen and took photos as I went, knowing that I wasn't happy with what I was getting... but you, lucky blog readers, get them anyway!

So, as for Fillmore Glen State Park.  It's not the most photography friendly state park that I've been to. You don't have a great view of some of the little "mini-falls" that happen throughout the gorge, it's mostly a flat moseying stream at this point in the year with little umph to it. Where there is something interesting, you either can't get down to the stream bed to capture it or trees and bushes are blocking your view. I'll take my beloved Ithaca state parks in it's place any day. Fillmore may hold more interest in the Spring when the water is flowing freely, but I would be hard pressed to return to this spot even then.  Take that as it is... an unbiased impression from a first time visitor with a camera...

On to the other photos for this post. I'll put up the rest in a future post!

Infrared | PHL

When I'm shooting in Maine I do find it hard to remember to take the other camera with me and set up for some infrared photos. It's a bit more of a hassle with a camera that I'm using a IR filter on. Next year it should be a little easier with a converted camera slung over one shoulder, and another on my opposite shoulder. Or at least I can hope it'll be easier...

Round Up | Niagara

Thought I would wrap up the photos from Niagara Falls, considering I still have some Maine photos to share. I'm a bit behind on my processing, but I'm working hard at getting caught up. I'll try to break up the Maine photos with some older photos that I'm just getting around to thinking about... actually, I forgot about them for a while... My bad.

Falls View | Niagara

I just got back from spending a couple days in Buffalo for work. We had one free night while we were there to go out and do something, so we loaded into the car and drove the 20 minutes to Niagara Falls. We got there just as the light was disappearing behind the hotels on the Canadian edge of the falls. After we ate dinner we walked back over to catch some of the night lights before heading back to the hotel. It was a beautiful night.

Views of a Lighthouse | Pemaquid Point Light

Always one of my favorite stops while in Maine. This place, like many others, tests my patience with all the people that wander around. It's usually worth it to just have a seat on a rock all set up and wait them out. It especially helps when it's a beautiful, blue sky day like it was the day I was there this year.

A day of rest...

Everyone must take time to sit and watch the leaves turn.
Elizabeth Lawrence

I had to do the diligent daughter thing on Saturday, so a good part of my day was spent at my mom's house and running her around. By the end of the day I was so completely wiped out that I was ready for sleep by 10:00. The culmination of a long week, I guess, finally took it's toll on me.

While I was there I did manage to find some things that caught my eye. I guess it's one of the benefits of getting up early and heading out to get things done. I had the time to wander around her field while the dew was still on the spider webs. A beautiful morning to be out there. Wet feet and all.

I've spent the day today watching football and looking at different ways of sharing my blog posts to all the internets out there. Not sure that I've come away with anything that I really like. I'd be interested in knowing what others out there are doing to share their thoughts with others.

Shades of gray...

Guess it was a black and white kind of week... Well. Mostly. For whatever reason, the color versions of these 365s just didn't do it for me...

I've been trying to do some photo editing in Lightroom... I feel kinda limited compared to what I can do in Photoshop... I feel a bit out of place using it, so unless I have a great acquisition of knowledge before the trial is up, I probably won't keep using it.
