<span style="text-align: justify;">It has been a while since I had a camera in my hand other than some shots around the house. So much going on to distract me. I managed to make the annual pilgrimage</span><span style="text-align: justify;"> to the Orchid Show at the NY Botanical Gardens in the Bronx. It was a beautiful but windy day. I'm glad I went. It felt good to actually think about what I was shooting once again. I'm hoping that the months upcoming hold some shooting adventures for me... It will be nice to be out there once again. </span></div>

Hey all... posting round two from the orchid show tonight. I might have a couple more after this, but I really didn't take as many photos as normal when I was there this year.<br />
<br />
Have a wonderful weekend, my friends!<br />

Slacker here, checking in. I've had these images uploaded for about a month now, and it seems that I've had the really good intention of getting them blogged... every day. But, as you can see, that really good intention went by the wayside. Anyway, I'm hoping to climb out of the blogging void with this post. Wish me luck!</div>

These photos are from this year's Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx. As always a delight for the senses. I have a few more than I can put up here in one post, so I'll break it up a bit. </div>

The last you saw I was just leaving Nashville after spending a couple hours at the Grand Ole Opry. In this episode (and several to follow) we are centering our thoughts and visions on Memphis. Memphis was, well... interesting. Did I always feel safe when walking the streets there? No. Did my camera come out very much? No. Was I happy with having to show ID and be scanned with a metal detector to get onto the most famous street there? Sure... because in front of me, and behind me, were hundreds of other people that were being checked before being allowed to get onto that party street. That was just a tiny little bit of comfort.<br />
<br />
I stayed at the <a href="http://www.peabodymemphis.com/">Peabody Hotel</a>. And it was a beautiful place. If you don't know it, or haven't been there, check it out. The story of the <a href="http://www.peabodymemphis.com/peabody-ducks/">Peabody Ducks</a> will probably be one of the top stories that you come across. When I first read about them I thought, hey, that will something to see happen. I mean, yeah, it's a duck, and I've seen plenty of ducks, but how often do you see ducks walking through the lobby of a hotel of this grandeur? Not often would be my guess! So, the ducks come in and the ducks go out at set times throughout the day. I managed to walk in the door about an hour before one of the departures, and the place was MOBBED! Who would have thought? Do they not have ducks in Memphis?<br />
<br />
And of course, being the person that I am, and wanting to see what the big deal was about these ducks, I got myself into the middle of it all... wiggled my way up to the red rope, and there I sat. For an hour. In a virtual mosh pit of duck enthusiasts, as it would seem. I listened to the Duck Master explain the history of the ducks (yes there is a duck master...) and I waited. And waited. And waited.<br />
<br />
Finally it was time for the great duck retreat for the day. The Duck Master calls them. They hop out of the fountain and they waddle up the red carpet... cameras and flashes going off the whole way... and they get into the elevator and up they go. To their rooftop home. I guess it's something I needed to do because I was there. Would I push my butt into that mosh pit again? Nope!<br />

So many artists have played here... walked across its stage... stood in the circle. So, on the last day in town, before beginning the multi-hour drive to Memphis which was the next stop on our tour, we stopped at the Opry and walked across that stage.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6232/6311141074_a9098c54eb_b_d.jpg" width="640" /></div><div style="text-align: center;">"Country Comes Home." </div><div style="text-align: center;">The music returns to the Opry after the flood of 2010 that did so much damage.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6094/6311157856_c867cc6602_b_d.jpg" width="640" /></div><div style="text-align: center;">The simple artist's entrance into the Opry.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6107/6310654077_1d4d8db929_b_d.jpg" width="640" /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Now y'all know where your fan mail ends up...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6101/6310673999_7893770ce7_b_d.jpg" width="640" /></div><div style="text-align: center;">A glimpse across the stage...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6055/6310699193_723a9eee61_b_d.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6215/6310714563_f6fed4c47f_b_d.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6110/6310732091_6ab05f5ae0_b_d.jpg" width="424" /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">When the new Opry opened, a large circle of wood was cut from the original stage at the Ryman and inlaid into the stage at the new venue. When the Opry was flooded in 2010 people entered the building in boats and rescued this original circle of wood which was floating in the water. The photo above this last one shows the bottom level of seats in the auditorium. They were underwater. The water also rose four feet over the Grand Ole Opry stage.</div><br />
So ends this leg of the Tennessee journey... up next, Memphis. I was lucky to be surrounded by those that I love, and a day filled with smiles and laughs. I'm also one of the blessed (or horribly taunted) to have two Thanksgiving dinners... because one only knows you can't NOT have Thanksgiving leftovers... or so it seems! I spent some of the day on Friday wandering with my camera in hand, finding my muse and crawling over it. I didn't take any photos of the family dinner, and felt rather good about that. I left others to cover the festivities... the next day was for me. And the camera came out, but only for a few minutes...</div>Victoria Fatumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18197628260948411129noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5889067236322217637.post-77103475026872806982011-11-21T21:21:00.001-05:002011-11-22T20:12:51.715-05:00Old Swedes Church | Wilmington, Delaware<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6034/6372341895_51b688b05b_b_d.jpg" width="640" /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I finally got the chance to go check Old Swedes Church in Wilmington, Delaware the other weekend. Thank you to my friend <a href="http://www.vandyll.net/" target="_blank">Jerry</a>, (over at Vandyll.net) for keeping me company while I wandered. Old Swedes is the oldest church in the US, built in 1698 by descendants of the Swedish colonists who crossed the Atlantic aboard the <i>Kalmar Nyckel</i> in 1638. A small and quaint church with a regular number of parishioners around 40. Worth a visit, but I wish I had a little bit more time to spend there. The following is a series of photos from the inside of the church. I have some from walking through the cemetery, as well, that I'll do at a later time. For what ever reason it wasn't a great photo day, so they are not great... let's just consider them documentary!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6234/6372536515_53d796383c_b_d.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6106/6373769801_1c11c5b2af_b_d.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6094/6373698309_5239b574eb_b_d.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6032/6373181909_4ae06ef42b_b_d.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6228/6372913813_1ef8275efd_b_d.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6051/6372828003_77abb7f4f3_b_d.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6059/6372785633_649f49d12a_b_d.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6115/6372376045_f0f2c1ed41_b_d.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6060/6373722563_02719a2468_b_d.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6091/6373457989_e676578664_b_d.jpg" width="424" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6118/6373201631_f62ac5e042_b_d.jpg" width="426" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6226/6372868185_3d576bc7f9_b_d.jpg" width="424" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6237/6372745549_01249124ba_b_d.jpg" width="424" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6106/6372459927_e837219844_b_d.jpg" width="424" /></div>Victoria Fatumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18197628260948411129noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5889067236322217637.post-59745855533325382542011-11-06T18:22:00.000-05:002011-11-06T18:22:14.451-05:00Hallowed Ground | Nashville National Cemetery<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6227/6310450333_34d4579b43_b_d.jpg" width="640" /></div><div style="text-align: center;">A quiet drive through of the Nashville National Cemetery.</div><div style="text-align: center;">A peaceful and beautiful place.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6238/6310427601_175a2d0f14_b_d.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6114/6310962036_18ff919cf1_b_d.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6114/6310480445_e3ec376494_b_d.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6237/6310565053_e424dbde93_b_d.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6040/6310580087_a4f2fe2830_b_d.jpg" width="640" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

This set of photos is from September where I found myself landing in Nashville, TN for a conference... after a horrific travel day, I might add. Delays, multiple missed backup flights, switching airports in Washington, DC... and then a late night arrival. I didn't have a lot of time to explore the city. My free time was at night. Needless to say these are strictly touristy type photos.... working with what I was given, on the fly.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">So, that said, I'm going to do my best with getting caught up with the photos that I do have. You'll be seeing fall photos here shortly... it's just the way it is. You have to start catching up somewhere, right?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6229/6310316733_819d4aa9f5_b_d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6229/6310316733_819d4aa9f5_b_d.jpg" width="424" /></a></div>The first photo is from Owen Bradley park. The photo above this post is directly across the street from that little park. This sculpture's name is "Musica."</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6215/6310856210_7656156df9_b_d.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6229/6310347557_63cab792fb_b_d.jpg" width="424" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.bbkingclubs.com/index.php?page=nashhome">BB Kings Blues Club</a> - Great band playing here the night we visited.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6106/6310880770_a2990d64f0_b_d.jpg" width="424" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Wow. OMG... awesome food there, and the crowd to prove it. Know what you want when you step up to order. There's no messing around here! After dinner we roamed the street a bit and stumbled into <a href="http://www.thestageonbroadway.com/theStageOn/home.php">The Stage on Broadway</a>. A packed house. Great band playing. Waylon, Willie and Cash may be on the wall, but this group was far from country. Good times had by all there. The band played for tips only, and I put in more than my share for this cutie pie lead singer!</div>Victoria Fatumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18197628260948411129noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5889067236322217637.post-13061719603904843012011-10-16T21:15:00.000-04:002011-10-16T21:15:55.172-04:00Forgotten | Ithaca in Infrared<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6088/6208814839_2e2bf7fb66_b_d.jpg" width="640" /></div>My head as been all over the place. Although tired and mentally done for the day I managed to sneak in one more stop before hitting the road home. I hadn't been at Havana Glen before, so that day seemed like the perfect time to stop. My walk up to the falls was in solitude, and I kept thinking how wonderful it was that there was no one around! I got to the base of the falls, set up my tripod, fired off a couple sets of photos, and soon I was no longer alone. A couple of individuals had joined me, but sat on the rocks out of my photos. I cut across the creek and once again, I was alone. For a few minutes. It's funny how people can come out of no where at a place like this, on a beautiful day, where you can just frolic at the base of the falls. I finished getting the photos that I wanted, and I packed up my gear and left. I'll return to this spot. A short walk to what will hopefully be a quiet and solitary spot to shoot...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6180/6205978850_cba204b916_b_d.jpg" width="424" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6126/6205955278_fdd9ba7791_b_d.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br />

I'm feeling the guilt. Really. It's funny how the summer just manages to slip by you so quickly, and all your free time, and then some, is taken up by caring for others as well as yourself. It doesn't leave much time for the camera. I did manage to sneak away for a night at one of the local county fairs. Sadly I missed our local one, once again. I went sort of prepared to shoot that night, but yet I still didn't have what I needed when I hit the fairgrounds. Amazing how that happens! Anyway, these are just a few quick shots from the night. Most weren't worth me opening up, but I managed to find a couple to share! Spent the day dodging swimmers to get a few shots of the falls at Buttermilk Falls State Park in Ithaca, NY. A beautiful place... when there aren't a ton of people jumping in the water as you're trying to take a picture. Where are the Rangers when you need them? I take a step off the walkway and I have one crawling all over me. Here, they are jumping off the ledges into the deep pools, and no Rangers in sight. Perfect. I'm not sure if I'm done with photos from this visit or not. I just needed to get some of them up!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6015/5952024997_391d974a6e_b.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6131/5952601284_d14e234254_b.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6148/5952254261_3fae3cf71d_b.jpg" width="426" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6014/5952100255_931c9a130e_b.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6136/5952694998_2c61b3dfc7_b.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6135/5952368953_ded710a77c_b.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6009/5952281053_28a4e1e709_b.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6137/5952858168_fcdb4e0831_b.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6002/5952944404_f546caee36_b.jpg" width="426" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I've only just begun looking at them, so we'll see what I get out of this set as the days go by.</div>Victoria Fatumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18197628260948411129noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5889067236322217637.post-77620566978918908412011-07-07T19:09:00.000-04:002014-10-18T17:23:40.118-04:00Sidelined | An Infrared View<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Sometimes we fall back on those things that act like a muse for us. I have a couple of those. I needed to fall back on one of them this weekend. I'm not sure what I'll do if they ever take this big old truck away!</div>

I'll leave that to all the people wandering around with their cell phone cameras taking snapshots as they go... </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">I went out testing the waters on the mojo I have left for automotive photos... It used to be one of my favorite things to shoot. This weekend was a bit of a struggle, although the weather was right for it. A nice overcast, yet rainy, day. I wasn't happy with as many shots as I had hoped, but I guess just getting one or two takes that sting away. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">I don't know what's next... I can't quite wrap my mind around this picture taking thing right now. Maybe what's next is actually putting the camera aside, instead of having it sit in front of me, and me thinking that it's something that I'm going to reach for every day.... time will tell, I guess. Until I get it figured out, happy snapping my friends...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3007/5874133111_151813886e_z.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5309/5874742942_480031b5fe_z.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5075/5874352017_c8715bc3f1_z.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3200/5874458981_3ba02a32c8_z.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5272/5875006728_517c74c566_z.jpg" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5240/5874868104_6dcf467336_z.jpg" width="640" /></div>Victoria Fatumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18197628260948411129noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5889067236322217637.post-80877503848798988472011-06-15T19:21:00.000-04:002011-06-15T19:21:39.341-04:00Life in the backyard | Uninspired<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3045/5806276237_6ffc7eefc4_z.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><i>Preoccupied.
